Orthopedic Mattress Products - Choosing The Right Mattress For You

There is little doubt that more and more people are suffering from some form of back or shoulder pain these days, and these conditions are costing the health service many millions of dollars per year. But why does our health seem to be ebbing in a downward spiral?

Many people think that the levels or inactivity that people face these days plays a large role in this muscular and skeletal pain epidemic. Additionally, and also very much linked to the lack of movement is obesity. People are getting heavier and this is putting their bodies under a lot of strain.

One area that is often focused upon a lot is back, neck, shoulder, and head pain, particularly during the night and finds people waking up in the morning with debilitating pain that can make their whole day a misery, and also cause many lost days of productivity at work.

There needs to be a sensible approach to these types of pain, and a visit to your doctor will be an important step, but there are a range of bed related products that can help make a real difference to how you sleep, and how your body is supported whilst in bed. The orthopedic mattress has developed a lot over the years, and is no longer necessarily a simple pocket sprung mattress of traditional design. There are plenty of other models out there using a range of materials like latex, memory foam, and a mixture of the two.

One important part of effective and pain free sleep is support, and many mattresses do not offer the total body support that is required to sleep well. A mattress that will mould to the contours of your body effectively, removing pressure point pain, and adapting to the protrusions that everyone has will go a long way to relieving discomfort during the night.

I personally have used a number of mattress designs over the years, and have become a huge fan of memory foam, that space age material that was designed by NASA for use in space travel. Memory foam is heat sensitive, so is soft and yielding where it needs to be, around the core and at the head, but also supportive for the arms and legs. If you have never used one of these mattresses, it is well worth trying them out. The body is held in perfect alignment and I wake every morning feeling revitalised and refreshed.

It is well worth doing a good amount of research when selecting this type of mattress, they can cost from a few hundred dollars up to a couple of thousand or more. It often pays to visit your local bed store to at least try out some of the products on offer. You may then be able to buy online and make a saving, but try before you buy is the best advice I can give.
